Feature Wall, it’s not just about wallpaper !
A feature wall can be a great way to bring some personality to almost any room in your home. You don’t want to go OTT with them though – choosing just one or two rooms max to incorporate a feature wall is usually the best idea. Selecting your wall is all about choosing a plain wall with no distractions, like windows or doors. It should also be a wall that catches the eye naturally when you enter a room.
When most people think of feature walls, they think of wallpaper. However, there are so many more textiles you can have fun with to create your very own feature wall!
1. Brick Cladding
Using brick cladding on your feature wall will give you the rustic look of brick inside of your home. It might feel strange bringing brick to your interior, but it can work really well with certain design styles and bring a lot of texture to a space. You can find lots of different types of brick cladding; red brick, white brick, traditional brick, and more.
2. Stone Cladding
Stone cladding comes in a number of different stone colours and finishes, and is perfect for texture due to the different textures, shapes, and finishes of the stone. It can bring a really interesting look to the interior of your home, and can make just about any room feel more cosy.
3. Decorative Paint
Decorative paint could be another choice for your feature wall if you want to get away from boring old wallpaper. There are all kinds of techniques you could use with paint on your feature wall depending on your preferences. There’s sponging, painting stripes, stenciling different shapes and patterns, polka dots, metallic paint, venetian plasters, and so much more. You can get really creative with decorative paint, even going as far as painting your very own mural if you’re a bit of an artist!
4. Decorative Porcelain Tiles
Decorative porcelain tiles can work really well in the bathroom or kitchen, but there are no limits to how you can use them. They also come in a variety of finishes to suit most tastes. You can go for a mosaic, hexagon shapes, sparkling tiles that catch the light, slate tiles, or even something more iridescent for a magical finish.
5. Concrete Panels
Concrete panels aren’t something you see inside of the home every day, but they can certainly give a different, modern appearance to your space. They are cool in appearance, so perfect for those who want to channel that ever popular grey theme that seems to be all over the place these days.
To decide what sort of material you want to use for your feature wall, consider the rest of your decor and the sort of vibe you’d like to convey. If you want something warm and cosy, then stone cladding could work really well. If you want to add an interesting and eye catching feature to your bathroom, then iridescent porcelain tiles are a great idea. Whatever you do, make sure you explore all of your options and remember – it’s definitely not just about wallpaper!
